Our Cats

We love playing and snuggling with our cats! Squash, has an interesting story! We have had her since October of 2023. My husband, Drew, brought her home one day after work to surprise us. One of our co-workers stumbled across Squash under the hood of his wife’s car! She had come home from church and noticed a strange noise coming from the engine of her car. When they looked to see what was going on there was a cute little orange kitten. She was definitely too young to be away from her momma but had found a cozy spot to stay warm. Squash loves me most; she will hang out with me for hours and prefers to snuggle with me more than Drew or the kids. She is the first animal that has chosen me as her human out of several we have had over the years. Drew loves to tease me about it because all of our animals love him. Squash’s color is only part of the reason for her name. She loves to walk around our feet while we are busy, and we almost squash her on a regular basis. At one point Drew called her Squash Punt because she also liked to walk in front of our feet as we were walking. She was never injured or seriously hurt thankfully, and we also somehow managed to avoid injuring ourselves in the process of not squashing her.

Squid showed up at my in-laws house in May of 2024. I received a text message “Can I have it” from Kelsey with a picture of Squid while I was at work. Of course, the kids bonded with him immediately and regardless of me hemming and hawing Squid was here to stay. We did take him to the vet to check for a microchip, but he didn’t have one and we kept an eye out for any online posts about a missing kitty. At first Squash hated him, she had been running solo for her whole 7 months of life. She would hiss and swat at him anytime he came around her. The more he tried to play with her the more she started to accept him and now they play all the time. Squid got his name partly as a suggestion from my mom. Squid and Squash had a nice ring to it being the main reason and the name stuck. Squid fits as his name because when he is lounging, he is all spread out, much like a squid lying on the ocean floor. He is such a chill cat; you can pick him up while he is sleeping, and he won’t budge. Just cracks his eyes open a bit and then carries on with his slumber.
